American News Release Plan
Goal: Write a news release Americans will read, trust, and share. Focus on relevance, clarity, and human impact.
Audience: Local communities, target customers, industry media, and influencers.
Angle: Make it local, personal, timely, and useful. Show how the story affects readers’ money, jobs, health, safety, or community. Use real people, concrete examples, and honest conflict or change.
Structure: Use the inverted pyramid. Headline: action + subject + result, with a number or local hook. Lead paragraph: who, what, when, where, why, how. Then background, quotes, data, details, and a clear call to action. End with organization info, media contact, and multimedia links.
Style: Plain, conversational English. Active voice. Short sentences. AP style. Avoid jargon, hype, and ads. Make it scannable with subheads, bullets, and bold points.
Assets: Two or three human stories, verifiable data, photos, video, graphics, and contact details.
Distribution: Pitch local and industry media Tuesday–Thursday morning. Use a short email pitch explaining why it fits their audience. Post on social media and make sharing easy.
Evaluation: Track opens, clicks, pickups, reach, and conversions. Improve next time.
If it feels like news, not an ad, Americans read and share it.
